Our challenge is to add a new feature for chat and more personalization keeping in mind the existing app’s UI elements.

  • Fitbit has the ability to make groups of people you know, challenge them and chat with them.

  • The Echelon and the Varis both just have the ability to challenge another member to a workout.

We want to know:

Customer’s goals, motivation and expectations before buying Peloton or any other competitor brand.

Does the user currently use the app or expect to use the app to create long lasting workout friendships?

Does the user feel more motivated to workout in a social media setting?

Someone who wants to connect more with their existing friends and we named him William

William needs help getting motivated to work out because he plays video games and uses his computer for many hours, neglecting his body and fitness.

HMW Help William to connect with his Peloton buddies after exercising?

Adding in new features

Too many icons makes navigation difficult during mid- fidelity testing.

Mood Board

We initially tried adding a top navigation bar to the profile screen but we quickly realized Peloton's had it right by only utilizing bottom navigation.

"Teams" page emulates the existing "Tags" page since users are familiar with that layout.

Moving the search bar made the new message icon easier to view.

Giving clear options for a group chat or message one person.

Utilizing Peloton's existing layout was much more successful in High Fidelity testing.

What I learned from this experience…

Working with a team on a quick sprint taught me how important project management is and how to create a successful timeline. Working remotely was a challenge but better management helped me overcome that. This project taught me how much your first iteration change after a usability test and how important understanding users is.
